VK AGEL Prostějov
The AGEL ladies had been waiting for almost two years to score a win in the Champions League. And, in set 3 of the match against SC Schweriner played in their own gym in Prostejov, it still looked like they would have to keep waiting to break the spell of continuous losses in Europe's finest Volleyball competition. Fortunately, our players pulled themselves together and cruised to a super important 3:1 victory.
Opposite Katie Carter comes from the USA and she has seen many places in the world. As a professional Volleyball player she has played in Los Angeles, Jakarta (Indonesia), Spain, Turkey, Azerbaijan or Switzerland, and, before she joined our team in Prostejov, she played in Daejeon, South Korea. This twenty-eight years old player was definitely a big help for AGEL Prostejov in the key Champions League match against SC Schweriner that ended in a relieving 3:1 win for the hosts. She was also awarded as the most valuable player after the match held at DDM Sports Centre in Prostejov on Tuesday.
Losing also this match would have put our Volleyball players on a dead-end track in this years Champions League. In the match for the third round of action in Pool D of the 2014 Champions League AGEL Prostejov responded well to the mental pressure and claimed a 3:1 win over their equal rival from Schwerin, Germany. The first battle for third place in Pool D brought our team three key points, which have placed us in a promising position to make it to the Challenge Round of the CEV Volleyball Cup in January.
As the teams from Istanbul and Cannes are too strong, Prostejov does not have big chances to advance to the Playoffs in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Champions League - Women. Anyway, there is still a lot at stake for the Czechs. The objective now is to make it as a third-ranked team out of Pool D and to go directly to the CEV Cup quarterfinals, that means AGEL Prostejov has to show its very best in the two upcoming matches against Germany's SC Schweriner. The first match is scheduled for Tuesday, November 26 at 6.00 p.m. at DDM Sports Centre in Prostejov.
The match between two Hana region teams maintained a straight direction in comparison with some of their previous clashes last season. In the match for the ninth round of action of the 2013/14 Czech UNIQA Extraliga AGEL Prostejov scored a sweeping victory and showed no mercy for its opponent from Prerov that was struggling hard with its incomplete roster. Until now Prostejov has lost only two sets and is the absolute leader of the table.
There have been two difficult matches for our ladies during the first half of the long preliminary period of Czech Republic's 2013/14 UNIQA Extraliga. The first one was a home match against Olomouc right at the beginning of the season, the second one was against Olymp in the capital of Prague yesterday. As usual, we would like to look back at this tough match and bring you some evaluations made by the participants and offer you some photos taken by Pavel Navratil, the medical doctor of AGEL.
